The Lapin Agile Cabaret
The name of this cabaret came from a sign painted by the artist Gill, showing a rabbit jumping out of a cooking pot!
By the end of the 19th century many of the big cabarets which were to form the reputation of Montmartre the Chat Noir, the Divan Japonais, the Moulin Rouge - were born. Among the most famous is the Lapin Agile, home to the Montmartre Bohemian set until 1914; Dorgelès, Carco, Courteline, Clemenceau, Picasso, Renoir, Utrillo, Van Gogh and many others took part in countless soirées, held by the one and only Père Frédé.

The Lapin Agile Cabaret alone keeps maintaining alive the traditions of la Butte: guests and singers play together well-known songs.

The cabaret’s sign remains a memorable symbol of Montmartre.
