October 18TH, 2016 – March 5TH, 2017
The exhibition proposes a novel evocation of the ties that connect Bernard Buffet to Montmartre and traces a detailed psychological portrait of the artist …
Through a reflection on his aesthetic discourse and his vision of the world, the exhibit’s journey goes back, among other things, to the clowning parades of the Medrano Circus, the artist’s amorous bestiary, its fusion meetings with literature and Theater, or his hard work in the workshop Lacourière and Frélaut in Montmartre.
The exhibition is not a traditional retrospective, but a free perspective at understanding his fiercely autobiographic creativity, including a pertinent choice of striking photographs and emotional souvenirs of his genius.
Around 100 works (paintings, drawings, prints and publications) as well as photographs tracing the life of Bernard Buffet will be presented at the Musée de Montmartre. The thematic approach emphasizes the graphic style that characterises Bernard Buffet and his passion for Paris, its environs and Montmartre.
