Museum of Montmartre

The most charming museum in Paris

Nestled between three unexpected gardens, overlooking the vineyard, Montmartre museum greets you in a 17th century house.
Come and discover a unique collection of paintings, drawings and posters signed by Modigliani, Kupka, Steinlen, Toulouse-Lautrec, Valadon, Utrillo…
Experience the artistic bohemian style of Montmatre, the atmosphere of the famous cabarets and the story’s highlights of this village.
Place of meeting and living, the 12 rue Cortot appealed a lot of artists. Auguste Renoir had here his workshop like Suzanne Valadin, Emile Bernard and the wild beast – Othon Friesz and Raoul Dufy. Montmartre museum is still soaked with the souls of those figures.

The Renoir gardens
The visit of the museum is an opportunity to have a walk in chaming gardens. They have been designed in 2012 from the paintings made by Renoir on-site, like “le Bal du Moulin de la Galette” and “La Balançoire”.

Temporary exhibtion : Artists in Montmartre : 1870-1910. Until Sept. 25th, 2016
Across more than 160 works, this exhibition will showcase the progression of Montmartre’s most well-loved figures towards the artistic avant-garde of the 20th century, notably the Bateau-Lavoir and “Picasso’s band” that remain its revered icons.

Next exhibition : Bernard Buffet – OCTOBER 18TH, 2016 – MARCH 5TH, 2017
This unprecedented exhibition evokes Bernard Buffet’s attachment to Montmartre : first in Pigalle where he was born in 1928, then in Batignolles where he spent his childhood and then to the Butte Montmartre itself where he lived for 10 years. The exhibition traces the psychological portrait of the artist, intimate yet researched, through a reflection around his aesthetic discourse as well as his very singular view on the world.
