In the heart of Paris in 1887 the théâtre LA CIGALE was built, it is now a protected historical monument. Through time it was first a cabaret where the most famous french Music-hall artits performed such as Mistinguett (1897), Maurice Chevalier et Arletty, Gabin (father) including « soirées futuristes » by Jean Cocteau. In the forties it became a popular cinéma, later specialising in « Kung Fu » films.
In 1987 LA CIGALE re-opened with the Rita Mitsouko, thanks to Jacques RENAULT and Fabrice COAT two ex second-handdealers, co-founders of the night club « Les Bains-Douches », LA CIGALE was up dated and re-decorated by Philippe STARCK as a multi-fonctional hall ; the artistic and commercial direction was given to Corinne MIMRAM who is still at the head.
Since then the theatre LA CIGALE has welcomed well known artistis such as David Bowie and his Tin Machine, Ben Harper, Charles Trenet, STOMP ,The Red Hot Chili Peppers and the new talent such us Norah Jones, Cat Power, Olivia Ruiz, Raphaël and stand up comics : Djamel and Guy Bedos, plays such as Edouard Baer and his troup, as well as Johnny Hallyday’s show wich went on to become a triumph. |
